Whether you are in your early 30's (like myself), or happen to be from a younger or older generation, do you remember Boy Meets World?
Nearly 2 months ago, rumors had it that Disney was in the middle of creating Girl Meets World. It will be the female equivalent of Boy
Meets World.
The Girl Meets World cast will soon be taping, next month. As I read Yahoo's article about the new sitcom, an obnoxious fanboy felt the need to insult me, the past characters, and the remake. Then again, fanboys will be fanboys.
Fanboys cannot handle whenever somebody disagrees with them or cope with change by acting rude and belligerent.
And they wonder why they are constantly the referred to as fanboys, incels, man-children, and tards?
As I was saying, I posted a comment about Girl Meets World simply giving my thoughts about how the remake will appeal to the younger Millennials and Gen Z for viewership.
There's nothing wrong with Disney wanting to make a female version of Boy Meets World for a newer generation of female viewers. Girl Meets World will mostly focus on Cory and Topanga's daughter.
As for someone like myself, who watched every Boy Meets World episode from 1993 to 2000, I am unsure if Girl Meets World will be able to gain and maintain a huge audience.
We live in a completely different era, now. It doesn't seem like most people today spend enough time watching TV anymore, since almost everything is streaming online.
Also, I don't think most of
today's younger viewers would appreciate the female equivalent of Boy Meets World.
At least 1 Boy Meets World fanboy on Yahoo (who keeps arguing with me about my own opinion) is highly against the remake.
The moron fails to grasp, that BOTH genders mostly watched the original sitcom for Rider Strong and Will Friedle's characters, Shawn and Eric.
Most of us, who were 'tween and teenage girls during the '90s, mostly watched Boy Meets World for them.
Even though Ben Savage played the protagonist, all of us did not watch Boy Meets World for the protagonist, Cory Matthews.
Cory Matthews was an obnoxious, socially inept, know-it-all with an average GPA. He later grew up to act like a smug, self-righteous, douche bag with the mentality of a 90-year-old hypochondriac.
Speaking of Cory's hypochondriac traits, which suddenly appeared as they became adults, I found it annoying. As a veteran viewer of Boy Meets World, it felt like the sitcom's writers at ABC wanted the protagonist to perpetuate negative stereotypes about Jewish American Adults. Shawn and Eric weren't exactly the brightest bulbs. However, they were the cool, hot boys on the show, that brought comic relief, angst, and edge.
Out of every character from Boy Meets World during my adolescence , I sympathized and empathized with Shawn Hunter the most.
I may not have been born and raised in the trailer park, but having a deadbeat dad and attending 5 different schools, before the age of 12 years old resonated with me.
Why do I say that?
Because that part of my life WAS like Shawn Hunter's growing up in the '90s. Bet you didn't see that coming.
Yes, in some ways, I am the female equivalent of that Boy Meets World character, Shawn Hunter. The writers at ABC suddenly changed Shawn's life story in "The Pink Flamingo Kid" episode.
Originally, he HAD an older sister. Shawn's sister was then replaced with a half-brother, named Eddie from The Pink Flamingo Trailer Park.. THEN, ABC's writers changed Shawn's half-brother, Eddie to be a white privilege trust fund brat, named Jack..
Gotta love how 2 of the protagonist's friends (Shawn and Topanga) were neck and neck with history rewrites. Then again, ABC has history of rewriting history whether it's about fictional characters, or real news. Anyway, I digress.
In order for Girl Meets World to succeed with younger Millennials and Generation Z, it MUST have Shawn and Eric.
Those 2 were the characters with charisma on Boy Meets World. Girl Meets World should also have a female main character, that is similar to Shawn or Eric. I'm really hoping that, Shawn and Angela reunited and have their own daughter.
Not having at least 1 if not most of those key components to the new series, Girl Meets World is screwed.
In a way, the female remake is already at several disadvantages because there are viewers like that fanboy, who are against a female remake.
3 Major Disadvantages To Girl Meets World:
1) Some people cannot handle CHANGE. Meaning, the remake could lose 1/2 its original fanbase.
2) Girl Meets World will be airing on Disney as opposed to ABC like the original. Not everyone has cable and not every cable owner has Disney on his/her package.
3) The acting and storylines are the biggest challenges. If these young girls can't act and the storylines suck, Girl Meets World will most definitely tank in ratings.
